There have been a few reports of counterfeit bills this summer in Fremont County. A $50 here, a $100 there seems to be the sporadic average of the reports. Remembering a PSA post we did in July from Riverton Police Department about a bank finding counterfeit bills, it prompted us to connect with RPD to see how this type of investigation works.

RPD shared with us all counterfeit money investigations are on the Federal Law Enforcement level. Local law enforcement does the groundwork, i.e. collecting video surveillance. All reports, paperwork, findings, etc…are sent of to Federal Law Enforcement for a full investigation. If anything is found they will alert local law enforcement.
As a reminder from RPD, take precautions and check your bills. Contact local law enforcement immediately if you are issued counterfeit money.
