All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
Laura Burleson, 43, of Fremont County is facing four counts of “Theft – Aggregate.”
On May 13, 2020 the Fremont County Sheriff’s office were dispatched to a Riverton-area business after a report that Burleson had possibly embezzled over $250,000 from the company over a period of several years.
An investigation ensued with the company’s accountant and Sheriff’s Detectives.
Court documents show that the company became suspicious when employees, “began complaining that their W-2’s were inaccurate, specifically the forms were reflecting income the employees had not received.”
Court documents show that 23 transactions were allegedly made without the company’s approval to Burleson’s personal finances, beginning in November 2014. The 23 transactions totaled $293,796.27.
In September, the preliminary hearing in this case was waived and transferred to District Court at a later date.
If convicted, Theft – Aggregate is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000.
