Fremont County receiving $2.7 million from federal government

U.S. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt announced Wyoming will be receiving $30.2 million from the federal government. Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) helps offset losses in property taxes due to the existence of nontaxable Federal lands within their boundaries.

The $30.2 million will be dispersed to the 23 counties in Wyoming where land is owned by the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and other federal organizations.

Payment amounts are based on the county’s population and the number of federal acres within each county.
