Former FCSO employee pled ‘not guilty’ to child abuse felony charges at February 23 arraignment

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

(Casper, WY) – Casper resident and former Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Deputy Sheriff Jarrett Vargas, pled “not guilty” at his February 23rd arraignment hearing.

His trial has been set for May 2nd.


Vargas faces both aggravated child abuse and child abuse felony charges for an alleged incident occurring October 15th, which resulted in the victim, born in 2021, suffering a bilateral subdural hematoma on both sides of the frontal lobes of his brain.

The injuries were severe enough that the infant had to be transported to Denver Children’s Hospital via helicopter for specialized care.
