    Fireworks banned on Wind River Reservation starting July 5th

    Ft. Washakie, WY — This 4th of July holiday the BIA Forestry & Fire Management- Wind River Agency will be stationed for several days throughout the Wind River Indian Reservation communities to deter acts of arson– as witnessed in recent days.

    The Shoshone Business Council would like to communicate to the public that such acts of deliberately setting fires on property are unacceptable and extremely harmful to not only our land but our people as well.

    Due to the recent arsons and increasing fire danger, the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, in cooperation with the Northern Arapaho Tribe, have agreed on a ban on fireworks effective Sunday, July 5, 2020. This will remain in effect until further notice.

    We ask residents of the WRIR to be overly cautious when using fireworks on July 4.

    BIA Wind River Agency provides forestry and fuels management programs that protect and restore trust lands. Wildland Fire management programs prevent, suppress and use fire as a land management tool to restore landscapes held in trust for the Reservation.
