Fremont County School District #38 (FCSD #38) had the most significant enrollment decrease across Wyoming for the 2019-20 school year, according to a release from the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE).
The district had 54 fewer students enrolled at the beginning of this school year compared to 2018-19. It is typical for the district to see fluctuations, shared FCSD #38, Superintendent Roy Brown. There is not a specific pattern or cause for the enrollment changes. He did note it is common for students outside of the district to attend and then transfer back to a school in their home district.
However, enrollment had steadily increased the past few years since the 2016-17 school year when numbers dropped below 400 students.
Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 6th grade had the most substantial decrease in numbers this year, Brown noted. Since the WDE report was processed in October, they have seen an increase in student enrollment.
