Equipment failure possibly caused fatal crash Monday morning

(Laramie County, WY) – On January 24th, 2022, a fatal crash occurred around milepost 353 on Interstate 80 west of Cheyenne, according to a release issued by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Chicago, Illinois resident Alejandro Flores.

At 10:35 AM, WHP troopers were notified of a one-vehicle rollover.

Flores was headed east on Interstate 80, pulling a utility trailer, when the vehicle sustained a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control.

The vehicle and trailer entered the median and overturned.

Flores was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Speed and equipment failure is being investigated as potential contributing factors.

This is the 2nd fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2022 compared to 8 in 2021, 3 in 2020, and 12 in 2019 to date.
