Early Tuesday rock slide reported in Wind River Canyon

(Shoshoni, WY) – The Wyoming Department of Transportation is reporting that a rock slide occurred along US 20/WY789 around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9th in the Wind River Canyon.

WYDOT worked to move the smaller rocks to the edge of the roadway between Shoshoni and Thermopolis near milepost 122.7. A private contractor will help WYDOT employees break-up the rocks next week so the debris can be hauled out of the canyon.

WYDOT reminded motorists and recreators to be mindful of rock slides. “If you’re fishing inside the Wind River Canyon, think about where you park,” said WYDOT Public Relations Specialist Cody Beers. “As frost leaves the ground, rocks are moving downhill.”
