Early Morning Car Chase Reaches Speeds of 64 MPH in City Limits; Not Fast Enough to Outrun Deputies
(RIVERTON, WYO) – A 43-year-old Man from Cody identified as Christopher Mitchell, led local authorities on a car chase early Tuesday morning after allegedly stealing a truck from Hot Springs County.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a stolen 2014 Ford Truck out of Hot Springs County, possibly en-route to the Shoshoni area at 1:53 AM Tuesday Morning. A Deputy identified the vehicle near mile post 119 on Highway 789, traveling south at 96 miles per hour, and began to pursue in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and began an attempt to elude officers.
The driver of the vehicle entered Riverton at around 2:00 AM, traveling at speeds between 30 and 64 miles per hour on several roadways in town. Riverton Police Department assisted and attempted to spike the truck’s tires without success.
The vehicle drove to a dead end at South 8th West Street and was attempting to turn around when a Deputy pushed the front of his vehicle into the passenger side of the fleeing truck. The driver then complied and stopped the vehicle.
Mitchell, who was the driver and sole occupant of the truck was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were caused by the chase.
