By now, it’s no secret that local McDonald’s owner Tim Postel loves to get out into the community. He enjoys sharing coffee or a meal and learning more about everything Fremont County has to offer.
Monday morning, Tim brought Shannon Rowles, the General Manager of the Riverton store with breakfast sandwiches and coffee to Eagles Hope. While there, he met some of the residents and the Director, Michelle Widmayer.
Michelle shared that Eagles Hope is transitional housing for those that need to get back on their feet. Residents must remain drug and alcohol-free, find employment and pay something for their living space. There are currently 20 adults and 13 children living at the Riverton facility.
Gathered together with several residents in the communal eating and kitchen space, Tim listened to Eagles Hope residents share their stories.
An unexpected testimony about the facility came from Shannon, the long-time GM at the Riverton McDonald’s. She told Tim that she has three current employees that came through Eagles Hope. She told Michelle, “don’t hesitate to send anybody my way. They’ve always been great and you offer such a great opportunity for people.”
A resident at the facility, Whitney, shared her story with Tim. “I came here from Florida for something and it didn’t work out. If I hadn’t met Michelle, I don’t know where I’d be.” Whitney has just completed training to do tax work and will begin preparing tax returns this week. Her husband was recently able to join her in Riverton.
She continued telling Tim, “anybody can need help. It can happen to anybody. My husband and I had a two-hundred thousand dollar house in Florida and good jobs. We lost everything and came here to start over.”
Her husband chimed in, “it’s been a blessing.”
