Driver of car killed in wreck south of Riverton last night

Update at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 11th: The name of the deceased driver has been released. Merlin Black was the driver of the passenger car according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Last night, Tuesday, September 10th a school bus vs. passenger vehicle wreck occurred South of Riverton at the intersection of WY-789 and WY-138. 9 Lander Middle School students and their bus driver were transported to the hospital for minor injuries and reportedly released. Fremont County School District #1 Activities Director Serol Stauffenberg updated County 10 on their condition in this post from last night.


The FCSD #1 bus was hit from behind and as of this morning, Wednesday, September 11th, Wyoming Highway Patrol has confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle which struck the bus was killed.

Merlin Black was the driver in the passenger car, shared WHP.

According to WHP, alcohol use on the part of the driver of the passenger vehicle is being investigated as a contributing factor.
