(Riverton, WY) – October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and the Girl Scouts and Soroptimist International of Riverton once again teamed up to assist in getting the word out.
The Girl Scouts spent hours making 150 of the purple ribbons to cover Riverton and Lander. Earlier this month, Girl Scouts and Soroptimists walked Main Street, wiring the iconic purple ribbons to lamp posts.
The Girl Scouts stayed to tie more purple ribbons to the tree at The Depot, reinforcing the reminder that everyday women and girls in Fremont County could be experiencing violence in their lives.
The Fremont County Alliance Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is the driving force behind the efforts and asked for assistance with getting the purple ribbons up.
It is the goal of the Alliance to work for major changes necessary to eliminate both personal and societal violence in our lives. Their work includes providing safe space and advocacy; generating alternatives in a supportive non-judgmental atmosphere; and efforts to eradicate social conditions which contribute to violence against victims and children.
Soroptimist International is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls, locally and around the world.
