Do you know a family in need? VOA continues handing out food boxes on Thursdays

Volunteers of America (VOA) will have Food & Basic Need Boxes at the United Baptist Church parking lot at 1201 E Pershing Avenue in Riverton on Thursdays from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. The next one will be Thursday, May 21st.

The boxes are designed to help feed a family of four for a week, as well as provide some basic needs and hygiene supplies for the family. Deliveries are planned each Thursday for as long as there is a need caused by COVID-19, and funding allows.

VOA wants to lend a hand to those most impacted by COVID-19. Delivery will be “no touch,” staff and volunteers will place the pre-filled boxes into your vehicle. Follow the parking signs and the flow of traffic so VOA personnel can safely and efficiently place the Food & Basic Needs Boxes in your vehicle – no need to step out of your car. For walk-up individuals, please help VOA maintain proper social distancing, but they will have some Food & Basic Need Kits that are sized to be carried.

The programs offered by VOA are critical and remain operational to serve those in need. They have more than 200 staff and volunteers working to provide services in Montana, Wyoming and Western South Dakota in this current crisis.

As COVID-19 began sweeping across the country, Volunteers of America took measures to protect clients and staff, but also to find new ways to help their neighbors in need. As this pandemic has impacted friends and neighbors, VOA has leveraged additional resources and relationships in the region to support communities and individuals in need.

Food & Basic Need Boxes are not all the VOA has in place to assist those impacted by COVID-19. With funding from several foundations and generous donors, VOA created a new Community Outreach Response (COR) program with funds available for those facing hardship due to the Coronavirus disease pandemic. The program can help those most impacted with rental and utility assistance, to secure childcare, and to meet other special needs. This is a rapid response program, for those struggling to make ends meet due to COVID-19.

Call the Community Outreach Response program at (307) 672-0475 to speak with staff about what financial assistance might be available for your unique circumstance. The program has staff available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and can assist residents of the State of Wyoming.

Also of note: All of the Volunteers of America’s Veteran Services are available to help Veterans in need of housing. The CARES Act made additional resources available so that Veterans facing homelessness will continue to get the help they deserve, quickly, in these trying times. Any Veteran facing homelessness should call VOA at 1.844.4.VOA. Vet service coordinators are available to help Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm across all of Wyoming and Montana.
