Costumes are on over winter jackets and several warm layers (because Wyoming), everyone has their trick-or-treat bag in hand and you are ready to hit the pavement with excited kiddos. Meanwhile, you may be thinking about your child’s food allergies or any of the other numerous reasons why candy isn’t the best option for them.
The Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) organization created the ‘Teal Pumpkin Project‘ as a way to indicate which houses have non-food treats to give out to trick-or-treaters.
Here’s how it works:
- Purchase non-food treats. Everything from glowsticks to stickers are on the list of treat ideas FARE provides.
- Place a teal pumpkin in front of your home so passersby know you participate in this project. Maybe you don’t have time or don’t want to paint a pumpkin teal, there are several free resources provided by FARE to indicate you have non-food treats available.
That’s all it takes to participate in the ‘Teal Pumpkin Project’!
