Dictionaries bring #smiles to the faces of Wind River Third Graders
(Pavillion, Wyo.) – There were Smiles all the way around. The Rotary Club of Lander distributed free student dictionaries to the Third Grade classes at Wind River Elementary School on Wednesday. The project is one of the Lander and Riverton Rotary Club’s efforts to promote literacy in the schools.
Each Third grade student in the county receives a free dictionary from The Dictionary Project. The two clubs purchase the dictionaries and then distribute them to both home schooled and public school students.
The two Rotary clubs also participate in other literacy projects, including a Read-to-Me program when Rotarians read to kindergarten and first grade classes in local schools each week. The clubs also assist with the Wyoming Reads Program in conjunction with the Fremont County Library System and the Imagination Library Program which was initiated by entertainer Dolly Parton and which provides free books to children from birth to five years old.
