CWC to require regular COVID testing for athletes, housing students

(Riverton, WY) – The Central Wyoming College (CWC) COVID Response Team met on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, where COVID precautions for the upcoming school year were discussed.

The parameters for the environmental scan of the 3 counties where campuses are located were reviewed, and 2 of the parameters (hospital data and local increase in virus activity) have moved from “improving” to “concerning.”

To mitigate the opportunity for the virus to spread among higher risk on-campus housing students, it has been decided that athletes will be tested before they get to campus, every 3 weeks until they are in-season, and then weekly when they are competing.

Each housing student will be tested on a rotating basis every three weeks as well.

Vaccinated students do not have to test unless they have symptoms and/or have had COVID in the past 90 days.

“We are communicating closely with our community partners and our community college counterparts to stay on top of this situation,” the email sent to the CWC campus community goes on to state.

Dr. Kathy Wells will be presenting an update at today’s listening session, and Willie Noseep will be presenting information on the Vaccine Incentive programs.
