The Central Wyoming College Student Nurses Association is headed to Haiti this March 13th.
“This is a one-of-a-kind service-learning opportunity,” Instructor of Nursing Terry Wilson said. “The nurses will have the opportunity to be hands-on learners and teachers of the art of nursing. This experience provides personal and professional growth and develops nursing skills from the perspective of a global citizen and a socially responsible individual.”
Students complete three mornings of hospital nursing partnered with the Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti (FSIL) nursing students. Next, they will complete three afternoons of home visits for Lott Carry elementary school students. They will also participate in two mobile clinics that will focus on community assessment of individuals without access to healthcare (due to the remote areas of the villages) and spend one day at an orphanage.
Their evenings will be spent interacting with FSIL nursing students to improve their English-speaking skills and discussing different nursing environments between Haiti and the USA.
