(Lander, WY) – Lander’s Cracker Box Caramel Pop has started a Kickstarter campaign to help finish their building so they can continue to provide a variety of popcorn flavors, expand their production and add jobs to the local Lander economy.
Verner and Maxinne Haas have been making caramel corn for ten years with Vern’s mom’s 60-year-old recipe. Additional flavors have been added over the years, including some regulars like butter and cheddar, along with others that are kicked up a notch like pizza and funky monkey, among many others.
They’ve been doing all of this out of a popcorn truck they built from the ground up. Their truck can usually be spotted at local events or in a parking lot in Lander.
“We topped the wagon out, I mean we can’t do any more out of it. And some of the recipes we’ve got now require a controlled environment,” Vern shared.
Just before the pandemic hit, they started construction on their building and have been through a few e-commerce websites to sell online that didn’t pan out.
Everything was halted once the pandemic hit, and to keep everything going they lost their savings and retirement. They now turn to the community for help through the Kickstarter campaign.
“It is hard for us to ask for help when everyone is hurting so badly,” Maxinne noted.
