County 10 to partner with League of Women Voters to hold Candidate Forums ahead of General Election

County 10 and the League of Women Voters of Fremont County (LWVFC)have announced that they will collaborate to hold and livestream local Candidate Forums, sponsored by Wind River Internet. The goal will be to provide a moderated, Q&A style event for key races so that locals can learn about the candidates in their own words.

“I can’t remember the last time broad candidate forums were held for local races. Certainly candidates have held events and maybe even debates, but we felt like it was time to leverage the technology available and do something more organized and accessible,” said Linda Barton, Chair of LWVFC

During the 2020 election cycle, LWVFC has been hard at work. They’ve produced two high quality, non-partisan voter resources including a Voter Information document with info like dates and how to register to vote locally. They have also surveyed all candidates for the Primary and published a Voter Guide with candidate Q&A.

The conversation about holding Candidate Forums began months ago between the two organizations and now that the Primary results have been certified details can be ironed out.

What is known for sure is that the forums will be live streamed on County 10’s website and via Facebook and different dates and venues will be booked. Focus is being put on conducting forums for races which impact the largest number of Fremont County residents. Now that Primary is over and the local races are set for the General Election, contact with the various candidates will be made.

Barton  said that “local forums are critical in providing information to voters on candidate platforms, thus allowing voters to enter the voting booth having made informed decisions.”

A forum with House District #54 Candidates Lloyd Larsen and Kevin Wilson is scheduled for September 16, 2020 from 6:30-7:30pm at the Lander Library, Carnegie Room.  Social distancing will be adhered to with a limited number of in-person seats available along with the livestream through County 10.  More detailed information will be forthcoming.
