The Community Peace March began as a remembrance for the lives affected by the Center for Hope tragedy in 2015 and has evolved to be an all-encompassing celebration of tolerance and peace within the community. Creating a safe place for community members to share their experiences, both good and bad, and give encouragement to others who may need it. Peace March organizer Ron Howard describes, “This is an event of inclusion.”
This community event is volunteer and donation driven. Ron mentioned participation and volunteers have decreased over the years making it difficult to get the word out and organize the event.
The 2019 Peace March will start at 6 pm on July 13th. Meeting at Rotary Park in Riverton and walk down Main Street to the Bandshell in City Park. They are planning to have food trucks and guest speakers at City Park to round out the event.
Speakers this year currently include:
- Tim Salazar, Republican Legislator Representative from Dubois
- Karla Borders, Riverton City Council Member
- Lynnette Greybull, Founder of Not Our Native Daughters
- Carol Deering, Riverton Poet
