Commission Chairman responds to recent claims

Northern Arapaho Business Council Chairman Lee Spoonhunter said in a release shared earlier today, September 17th, that Fremont County Commission Chairman Travis Becker threatened to stop the Tribe’s use of a County vehicle if Spoonhunter did not apologize for allegations he made on Monday in a legislative meeting.

Chairman Becker had “no comment” earlier today when contacted by County 10. However, he has now released a statement.

On Monday, Chairman Spoonhunter said Tribal Members were turned away from medical services in Riverton, and then loaded in the back of a Fremont County Sheriff’s Office truck and taken to the “transient camp” in Arapahoe. Both the FCSO and SageWest have denied those claims.

“I have and continue to uphold the highest standards possible as a representative of the citizens of Fremont County,” Chairman Becker said in the release. “When I hear of untrue, disparaging remarks made towards those I work and serve with, I stand up and try to correct the situation.”

Becker’s statement also said that he nor any members of the Fremont County Emergency Operation Center have “disparaged or made anti-Tribal comments.”
