Coach Porter honored with ‘Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award’

(Riverton, WY) – The family of longtime Riverton High School coach Ron Porter, who passed away in August 2020, shared on the Fight Like A Wolverine Facebook page last night that he received an award during the annual Wyoming Coaches Association Awards Banquet this past weekend.

“The WCA honored Coach Porter with a 2021 Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award for his contributions that spanned several decades and across many sports and programs,” their post reads.

“While we are certain he would have been honored, humbled and slightly embarrassed to be recognized—we know it is well-deserved. The countless hours he invested in youth sports and programs in Riverton and around the state has not gone unnoticed.

“While it may not have been listed on a state championship banner or stat sheet, his dedication to and influence on so many lives transcends beyond what he ever probably realized.

“We miss him everyday—and his witty and profound words.

“Thank you to the Wyoming Coaches Association for recognizing and honoring his contributions, and thank you to all of those who continue to give to the youth programs in Wyoming!”
