Central Wyoming College release:
The CWC Rustler Men’s Basketball team took the court last night in what would be the opening conference game of the season, facing off against #19 Casper College. Central would end up losing the game, 90-103. “Props to Casper for leveling up their play to start conference. I had built the game up with our guys, ultimately leading them to play a little tight. The entire program lost this game and we have a lot to learn from it. I told the guys before the game this is a journey. This one game will not determine our conference season. Time to move forward and improve,” commented Coach Brad Schmit.
From the opening tip, Casper took control of the game, going into a halftime lead of 51-33. Central would battle back after halftime, outscoring Casper 57-52. Jerroda Briscoe and Darius Guinn both had 22 points for the Rustlers. Briscoe had 11 rebounds and 5 blocks, and Guinn added 9 boards. Freshman Treyton Paxton would add 14 points, going 3/3 from the arc. Coach Schmit had this to say about the loss: “Overall I was very pleased with how the guys battled back after getting down 27 in the second half. The reality is, we dug ourselves to big a hole the first half by 8-38 from the field. We won’t win another game on our schedule shooting like that.”
Up Next: The Rustlers will head to Gillette College on Saturday, January 11th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm.
