Celebrate the outdoors at Wyoming Outdoor Weekend in Lander
Come explore the Wyoming Outdoor Weekend (WOW) in Lander, May 18-19 at the Lander Community and Convention Center. At the WOW you can try your hand at new skills, shop for outdoor products, eat local food, and win raffle prizes.
The event is open Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm. The happy hour sponsored by Fremont Distributing and Water for Wildlife begins at 5:00 pm with live music by String Theory. During the happy hour, at 6:00 pm, golf professional, Doug Firth will hold a putting contest on a green adjacent to the Community Center.
Saturday kicks off with a pancake breakfast by Kiwanis at 8:00 am and doors open are from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. During the weekend some activities are archery, air rifles, fly tying, fly casting, and a carnivore trail. Vendors range from optics to clothing to food to bikes and more.
A few special workshops are being offered throughout the weekend.
- 10AM Saturday – learn how to release your dog from a trap with the Wyoming Trappers Association
- 11AM or 2PM – try your hand at fly-casting with the Popo Agie Anglers
- Three medicinal plant hikes taking place on Saturday in Sinks Canyon with John Mionczynski
In addition to all of this, a SHOP LOCAL RAFFLE is taking place. To participate save your local receipts from Friday and Saturday and redeem them for raffle tickets or purchase tickets at the event.
The event closes on Saturday with a 6:00 pm free appreciation Barbeque at Centennial Park (beer for purchase) and an 8:30 pm free showing of the 2018 International Fly Fishing Film at the Lander Bar.
The event is a partnership between Lander Economic Development Association and The Wyoming Game and Fish Department but is paid for through its many other sponsors. The title sponsors are the Central Wyoming Climber’s Alliance, Fremont Distributing, Water for Wildlife, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
