Cause of yesterday’s Rendezvous Road fire undetermined

Yesterday, March 18th, around 3:30 pm the Riverton Fire Department, Fremont County Fire Protection, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Wind River Police Department responded to a grass/brush fire on the 900 block of Rendezvous Road.

“Upon arrival, there was approximately 1 acre of land burning and the fire was beginning to spread into an outbuilding, a horse trailer, and a few abandoned vehicles,” RFD Chief Henri DeClercq shared. “Due to the types of fuels, dense heavy sage and grass, and the winds at the time the fire spread on to a neighboring property threatening a home and a mobile home. We were able to protect all of the primary structures without damage.”

DeClercq estimates the fire was contained at about 5 acres. They were on scene for approximately 3 hours with 1 engine, 3 brush trucks, and 2 command vehicles with 13 firefighters.
