BLM to conduct fall prescribed fire project northeast of Shoshoni

The Bureau of Land Management Wind River/Bighorn Basin District tentatively plans to conduct a prescribed fire project 20 miles northeast of Shoshoni as part of the BLM’s commitment to keeping public landscapes healthy and productive. This project is contingent upon fuel moisture and weather meeting optimal treatment conditions.

The prescribed fire project may be conducted beginning in late October through early December in coordination with a private landowner in the area. The project area is 200-400 acres of BLM-managed, state and private lands west of the Bridger Pass Road in the upper reach of the South Fork of Bridger Creek.

The project goal is to enhance the sagebrush steppe landscape by reducing heavy fuels and removing areas of old and dense sagebrush in order to increase herbaceous plant species in the long term. Treatments will continue for the next three years or until completion.
