    Before Wyoming: Graphic shows indigenous place and trail names

    WyoHistory.org has recently posted some fascinating graphics and information about “Wyoming’s” geographical history, before the state was settled in 1890.

    The graphics above and below are from the mid-1800’s. Specific place and trail names are derived from Shoshone, Arapaho, Crow, Cheyenne, Lakota, and a few other languages. WyoHistory.org noted that many of the names indicated, “that animal and plant foods like mountain sheep and yampa root shaped the indigenous concept of place.”
