Avalanche near Pinedale kills 31-year-old snowmobiler

    Sublette County authorities say a Rock Springs man died after he was buried in an avalanche while snowmobiling near Pinedale on Saturday.

    Sublette County Coroner Curtis Covill identified the man as 31-year-old Dustin LaPant.

    Authorities say the avalanche carried LaPant about 50 feet and then flipped his snowmobile on top of him.


    The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that the avalanche occurred about 1,000 feet off the Horse Creek Trail, a busy snowmobile route.
