Another brick laid at Veterans Memorial Park

Have you been to Veterans Memorial Park, located near Rails to Trails bike path? Nestled in a serene location, the memorial serves as a place to pray for and honor our country’s heroes, local or otherwise.

Riverton’s Veterans Memorial Park first broke ground in 1996 when a motivated group of veterans banned together to create a tribute to our soldiers. It started with a pathway, stone memorial, a flag pole and benches.

Fast forward 20 years to 2016, the park was dilapidated due to neglect over the years. The original group voted to revive the park. Memorial bricks, a pavilion picnic shelter, flag poles and memorials have since been added, as well as several trees, donated by the Tree Board.

Beautification has been made possible through donations to Veterans Hall by local businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Life has been injected back into the park and the vets are more motivated than ever. Big plans are in the works, including a POW tribute monument, a wall along the Rails to Trails pathway which will host a mural painting, and a static helicopter display.

According to a presentation at City Council on November 6th, Chairman and designer of Veterans Park, Jim Arndt, appealed to the City of Riverton to begin the process of seeking to obtain a UH-1 static helicopter display from the Army donations program. The helicopter will stand 15′ tall, 58′ long, and 8.5′ wide. Blades and doors will be fastened and secured. Read more about the display and the City’s approval at this link.

Brick by brick, Riverton Wyoming Veterans Hall is raising money to bring these ideas to fruition. Along the parking lot are pavers with various names/logos of generous donors to the park. Each donor receives one of these pavers as a “Thank you!”

Individuals, families and businesses are encouraged to sponsor one of these bricks to help rebuild Veterans Memorial Park. All proceeds will go to new park additions and regular maintenance and upkeep.

To buy a brick or for more information, you can contact Veterans Hall at (307) 840-0702.

Dr. Colton Crane just received Rendezvous Dental’s official brick which will soon be laid along the sidewalk.

A donation to the Veterans Memorial Park is a great way to support this initiative. If you’d like to support your vets in other ways, consider attending the 12th Annual Hubert E. Warren, Sr. Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 11, 2018 starting at 11am at the Bank of the West in Riverton.

Following the parade, all are welcome to join them for a meal at The Heritage Hall, Riverton Fairgrounds. Chile, frybread, desert and drinks.
