Annual Challenge for Charities races canceled this year; still fundraising to support local charities

Lander Community Foundation and the Challenge for Charities Race Directors announced the cancellation of the annual Challenge for Charities Half Marathon, 5K, and the 1 Mile mad dash races in 2020. “We plan to get back to the 4th of July races as usual in 2021,” LCF Executive Director Mary Greene shared.

Their priorities are the safety and well-being of participating runners, walkers, and the community, Greene continued. It is unknown what the rest of 2020 may hold regarding guidelines surrounding COVID-19, they have a responsibility to make decisions considering what is best for our community.

We know we can postpone the races, but we can’t postpone our support to the charities that make Lander the amazing community it is, so we are kicking off the community-wide fundraising aspect of Challenge for Charities. Participating nonprofits and groups can fundraise from July 4 through September 15. We hope you help celebrate our 10th year of Challenge for Charities!

LCF is exploring options for how they will celebrate and promote the participating groups. They welcome your creative input, and will send updates as plans come together. Additionally, they want to enthusiastically thank Lander and our Challenge for Charities Challengers and donors.

If you were planning to participate in the race, please consider donating your race registration to the Challenge for Charities matching pool, which is distributed to the participating nonprofits. You can contribute to the Challenger Match Pool here.

They thank you for your continued support and contact us if you have questions or concerns.
