Iron Works Gym in Riverton recently celebrated its 14th anniversary with their ‘Battle Under the Bar’ event. Owner Kami Cunningham shared, this event is like a big lifting session instead of a “nerve-wracking” event. This years’ event had a slight change compared to previous years.
Kami explained, instead of payouts to the competing weightlifters, participants made donations. Kami gave an example of donating a $1 for every pull-up they did during the event. Participants could donate any amount they wanted to during the event.
Kami shared, “We will donate everything we got to the hospital and the Shoshone Labor Day Rodeo. About $700.”

Kami also brought in a special guest during their anniversary event, Matt Wenning. Matt is a three time world record powerlifter and elite strength coach.
Matt spent the two-day seminar lecturing and hands-on work based on attendees’ needs. He shared, a lot of people tend to be intimidated to attend seminars like these because they are not a powerlifter. People should not be intimidated to learn and better themselves. Education is the most important part of weightlifting. How to avoid injuries and how to hit personal records.
The 14th-anniversary announcement is Iron Works Gym will now be open on Sundays.
