Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.
Ron Porter graduated from Riverton High School in 1971.
After attending college, and playing basketball, at Casper College and the University of Northern Colorado, he graduated with a degree in education.
Ron’s first job teaching was in Rawlins, then it was on to Cody for five years, and in 1982 when a job opened at Riverton High School, it’s safe to say he was proud to become a Wolverine all over again.
He taught English for 35 years and has been active in a number of youth athletics, coaching basketball and baseball.
Mr. Porter was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Soon after the news, a Facebook page called “Fight Like A Wolverine” appeared with Ron’s story and served as a place for family, friends, former students, former athletes, and neighbors to share stories about how he’s impacted their lives.
This Saturday, the Riverton basketball teams host Cody. Considering Ron’s connections to both communities, it’s an appropriate time for a fundraiser.
The RHS Leadership group and Student Council, along with many staff members and community members are organizing a silent auction. A 50/50 raffle will help raise money, and RHS will donate all concession stand sales to the family’s medical expenses as well.
Some of the Wolverine teams have been wearing “Fight Like A Wolverine” t-shirts this season, those shirts will also be on sale Saturday at Wolverine Gym.
JV games begin at Noon and 1:30 p.m. The varsity girls game will tip at 3:00 p.m .and the boys will follow, around 4:30.
