Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.

Soroptimist International (SI) of Riverton partnered with Riverton Girl Scout Troop #1126 recently to sew nursing pillows for the Fremont County Public Health Nurse’s Best Beginnings program.

Six members of SI Riverton and three Girl Scouts carried sewing machines, fabric, stuffing, and other necessities to the Riverton Library on a Saturday, where they rapidly sorted themselves into small groups to assemble the pillows.

In all, nine pillows were completed, with five more needing only the hand sewing to finish. Ten pillows were delivered to the Public Health Nurse on November 19. The program, Best Beginnings, partners a Public Health Nurse with health care providers to help women experiencing their first pregnancy stay healthy and prepare to be a better parent. Free to women of Fremont County, Best Beginnings provides education and support from prenatal care through birth up to toddler care.

“These pillows are very much appreciated. They provide a very special service to Fremont County Moms,” Public Health Nurse Jeanna Stewart said.

Girl Scout Leader, Susan Bronson, is also a member of Soroptimist International of Riverton and anticipates more partnerships as the aims of the two organizations mesh. Girl Scouts is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad. Being a Girl Scout means learning new things about the world and having fun while doing it. It means stepping out of your comfort zone and doing things for people other than yourself and feeling good about it.

Founded in 1974, the Riverton club is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, is a global organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Riverton members join with almost 80,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women and girls.
