#Activate10: ‘Embracing Our Elders’ group seek donations

by | Nov 4, 2019

Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.

‘Embracing Our Elders’ is a small group of volunteers helping over 600 Northern Arapaho Elders. The group became active a few years ago when they made a few hundred Thanksgiving baskets for Elders and has since helped in any way possible.

Right now, they are focused on a Thanksgiving food drive in conjunction with Northern Arapaho Business Council Chairman Lee Spoonhunter to feed around 700 people, shared group member Jenni Wildcat. They plan to purchase turkeys for the baskets, so donations of other Thanksgiving goods or money are appreciated. Donations can be made before November 22nd at the Tribal Office in Ethete, the Gaming Agency Office located behind the 789 Casino or by calling Jenni at (307) 438-3719.

Aside from the food drive, Jenni did a recent assessment for what the Elders need and appliances made the top of the list. In particular fridges and stoves in decent, working shape. The group does not have funding so they rely on donations or low-cost items because purchases come straight out of the volunteers’ pocket. Donated services would also be helpful as they are preparing to winterize the Elder’s homes. Ramp building and gutter installing, among other things, are also at the top of the list for several Elder’s homes.

If you would like to donate or if you have any questions Jenni can be reached at (307) 438-3719.
