#Activate10: Annual Pony Express Re-Ride looking for volunteer riders; Coffee Time has the details

“Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.”

(Lander, WY) – 1330 KOVE AM / 107.7 FM’s Coffee Time host Vince Tropea recently sat down with Vannessa Powell, the captain of the Beaver Rim division for the The National Pony Express Association, who filled us in on the Annual Pony Express Re-Ride, happening on June 11th.

Members of the National Pony Express Association recreate the Pony Express journey in a commemorative Re-Ride over a 10 day period each year.

Letters are carried over the original trail, across 1,966-miles and eight-states, from Missouri to California, and the rides are 24 hours a day until the mail is delivered to its destination.

This year, riders in Fremont County will depart from Sweetwater Station, and ride to Atlantic City.

This 6 hour ride will include volunteer Pony Express riders carrying the mail in a mochila on the back of their horse.

This is where you come in.

The Beaver Rim division is looking for volunteer riders for the event, however, “This is not for the weak, since the riders are traversing across desolate landscape at top speed to meet with their relief rider, some two to three miles down the trail,” Powell warns.

Listen to the full Coffee Time interview with Powell below to find out how to participate in the ride, and even how to submit a letter to be delivered on the journey.

You can also contact Powell at [email protected] for more information.
