91 mph wind gust recorded at Red Canyon Wednesday

The Wyoming Department of Transportation, local law enforcement, and frankly the National Weather Service employees were all busy with a windy/messy day Wednesday across Wyoming.

Wyoming wind gusts reached over 100 miles per hour, and the strongest in Fremont County was Red Canyon recording a 91 mph gust.

Beaver Rim and Muddy Gap recorded gusts of over 70 mph, Lander had a 54 mph gust, Fort Washakie a 48mph gust, and South Pass had a 44 mph gust.

The wind was largely responsible for the closure of South Pass yesterday. The road remains closed as of Thursday morning, but crews are preparing to open it later today.

A one-vehicle accident near Red Canyon yesterday can be seen in the photo above with a semi-truck overturning and taking out a guard rail.
