9 students reported with minor injuries after Tuesday night FCSD #1 bus wreck

On Tuesday evening, September 10th, a school bus carrying Lander Middle School 8th Grade football players and coaches was reportedly in a crash just South of Riverton near the intersection of WY-789 and WY-138. The team was traveling home from a game in Worland when the wreck occurred.

A Facebook post at 10:30pm on the Lander Schools Facebook Page states that the bus was “rear-ended,” however details of the crash have not been confirmed by law enforcement at this time.

Fremont County School District #1 Activities Director Serol Stauffenberg informed County 10 that 9 students and the driver of the bus were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. He shared that, to his knowledge, the injuries were all minor and as of 11 pm, many had already been released. Stauffenberg was stationed at the SageWest Riverton when he shared what he knew.

“We want our families to know that everyone traveling with us tonight is okay. I don’t know the specifics of all the injuries, but everyone on the team and their driver who were injured will make it home alright.”

Stauffenberg did not know the condition or identity of the driver and/or passengers of the other vehicle, except that it was not anyone traveling with the Lander team.

More updates as they become available.
