59 Yellowstone-area grizzly bears captured last year; 32 were euthanized

According to a Jackson Hole News & Guide report, 59 Yellowstone-area grizzly bears were captured and 32 of them were euthanized last year.

That made it the state’s deadliest year on record for the animal. It’s the states second-highest recorded year in trappings, only being 65 of them in 2010.

Analysts believe that one reason for the high number of bear deaths is because the populations are starting to drift away from Yellowstone’s core-region.

Of the 32 bears killed, 17 were captured out of the monitoring area. One grizzly family was caught in Big Horn County, which is the further east the bears have been in recent years.
