    388 deaths recorded in Fremont County last year

    (Lander, WY) – Fremont County Coroner Larry Degraw and Deputy Coroner Erin Ivie provided the 2021 Case Summary report at the January 11th Fremont County Commissioners’ Meeting.

    There were a total of 388 recorded deaths in Fremont County for 2021. 176 of which were Coroner cases, which is up 4 from last year.

    63 of the Coroner cases were “non-natural” in manner, meaning they were accidental, homicide, suicide, or undetermined.

    Of the non-natural deaths: 44 were accidental, 17 were suicide, and two were homicide.

    In terms of the accidental deaths: 16 were motor-vehicle related, 15 were direct drug and/or alcohol toxicity, six were falls, three were from fire trauma, two from drowning, and one from hypothermia.

    Drug and alcohol-related deaths account for 56 of the 176 Coroner cases. Alcohol remains the number one substance of abuse in Fremont County with methamphetamine at number two, followed by opiates and then cannabis.
