A fatal crash occurred on US-287 outside of Lander on October 1st at around 1:50 pm. Wyoming Highway Patrol has released the following information about the wreck.
49-year-old Spearfish, South Dakota resident Kristi Dowers failed to notice a northbound vehicle as she was pulling on to US-287 from Bartholomew Way headed toward Lander. Unable to avoid a collision, 20-year-old Lander resident Kyson Chavez collided with Dowers.
Chavez was wearing his seatbelt and transported to SageWest Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash.
Dowers was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.
75-year-old Lander resident Georgia Nations was a passenger. Nations was not wearing her seatbelt properly and succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.
Driver inattention is being investigated on the part of Dowers as a possible contributing factor.
These are the 100th and 101st fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways in 2020 compared to 124 in 2019, 87 in 2018, and 109 in 2017 to date.
