    Fremont County Sheriff Ryan Lee provided his department’s monthly update during the Fremont County Commissioners’ meeting today, December 10th, 2019.

    Arrests:

    163 arrests were made during the month of November. There was no update from Sheriff Lee in October, but the November number of arrests are down 37 compared to what was reported for the month of September.

    The 163 arrests breakdown as follows: 58 RPD, 67 FCSO, 33 LPD, 5 WHP, and 3 SPD.

    Detention Center:

    As of yesterday, there are 179 inmates at the Fremont County Detention Center, and a total 185 in custody. 3 juveniles are being held in Natrona County, 1 is on home confinement, 1 is on furlough and 1 adult is being held in Hot Springs County.

    Of those 185 inmates, 37 have been sentenced and 148 have been pre-adjudicated.

    Solutions to Overcrowding: 

    Concentrating on the short-term solutions right now.

    Working with the Judiciary and Prosecuter to ease jail overcrowding.

    Looking at retrofitting certain “Pod” areas to increase holding capacity of non-violent inmates.

    Budget:

    Contractual services are over budget for the year due to housing inmates in neighboring county facilities.

    Medical budget was over last month due to an inmate suicide attempt. That cost was $125,000.

    The overall budget has balanced due to being understaffed.

    Revenue from the Department of Corrections for “split sentence prisoners.” $17,000 for one inmate. Currently have one and possiblity for two more soon.

    Search and Rescue (SAR):

    Total of 31 SAR operations so far in 2019. Ranging from motorist assists to in-depth rescues.

    A few thousand dollar donation was made to Fremont County SAR. What those funds will be applied to within SAR will be decided by the three commanders across the county.
