Life-simulation event for teens on risky behaviors set Tuesday at Fairgrounds

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – A “Life RU Ready?” event is planned on Tuesday, May 6 in the Fremont Center at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton. This program is a joint effort in cooperation with public health, prevention agencies, law enforcement, legal counsel, coroner’s office, health care agencies, and youth volunteers.  “Life RU Ready?”  has been a successful activity in Campbell and Washakie counties; this is a first time event for Fremont County. Sixth grade students from Shoshoni, Wind River, Fort Washakie and Dubois school districts will be participating.

“Big John” Smith received national public service award from NHTSA Monday in Nashville

(Nashville, TN) – The transportation director of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes traveled to Nashville this week to receive a national safety advocacy award from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA).

BREAKING: Two Eastern Shoshone Business Council members removed in General Council action

Two members of the Eastern Shoshone Business Council and the Tribe’s Attorney General were reportedly removed from office on votes taken by the Tribe’s General Council this past weekend. According to numerous reports, ESBC members Ivan Posey and Wes Martel were ousted from their positions along with the Tribe’s Attorney General, Kimberly D. Varilek.

EPA jurisdiction ruling topic in Monday Select Committee on Tribal Relations meeting in Fort Washakie

(Fort Washakie, Wyo.) – During Wyoming State Legislature Select Committee on Tribal Relations meeting on Monday will be one of the first official meetings where the jurisdiction issues raised by the EPA’s ruling that Riverton and other portions of northern Fremont County are Indian Country.

Obituary: Harrison A. “Bunny” Shoyo Jr.

(Fort Washakie, Wyo.) – Harrison A. “Bunny” Shoyo Jr. of Fort Washakie died in his home on December 25, 2013. A visitation has been arranged for on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 4 – 7 p.m., with the prayer service starting at 7 p.m., in the Rocky Mountain Hall. At 9 p.m. visitation will be moved from the hall to the family home, 130 Stewart Lane, for the rest of the night. A Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013, in the Rocky Mountain Hall, Fort Washakie. Burial will follow in the Sacajawea Cemetery. The full obituary is published here.

image(Riverton, Wyo.) – Sandra “Sandy” McMillen, 67, of Riverton, died at Riverton Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be with her family at Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial service will be Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, 10 a.m. at the CES Johnson Center. (Fort Washakie, Wyo.) – Bruce R. Means, 54, of Ft. Washakie, Wyo., died at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyo., on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. A rosary will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Great Plains Hall, the wake will follow. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Great Plains Hall with Father Phil Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery at St. Stephens.
