Kelly (Kal) Edward Denevan
Kelly (Kal) Edward Denevan passed away suddenly on April 11, 2017 at the age of 54. He was born May 20, 1962 to James Elmer and June Ellen Denevan in South Dakota. He grew up alongside his brothers in Rapid City, Fairburn, and Hermosa South Dakota, and later the family moved to Jeffrey City, Wyoming. Growing up, Kal loved having a good time with all his brothers and cousins, whether it was building a go-kart or playing practical jokes on their mother. As Kal grew older, he loved hot rods, going out shooting, fixing old cars, and having good times with his friends and family. When Kelly grew up and left home, he spent time as a heavy equipment operator, owned a residential painting business, a truck driver, and worked various construction jobs. Eventually Kelly settled down and had five children of his own: Martin, Roger, Christine, Jimmy, and Daniel. Kelly loved his children more than anything, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend with them. Whether it was watch ing them play sports, excel at school, or grow up and have families of their own, Kelly was a proud father, always excited about his children’s accomplishments. Nothing was more important to Kelly than his family, and he made sure they knew it. He loved his mother, his brothers, and all of his nieces and nephews, spending any time he could with them. Kal was a kind-hearted and generous man, always willing to step in and help someone in need, even if it meant he went without, and often times it did. Most recently, Kal was living in Douglas with his brother Bart, and his beloved dog Rosie, but was looking forward to his favorite time of the year, Summer. Kelly loved the summer because that meant he was coming home, to spend time with his mother who he loved dearly, spending time outdoors taking extra care of their prized yard, going to the annual family reunion in South Dakota, and his favorite, BBQ’s, where he was known as the grill master because he loved cooking fo r the family. Kelly loved a good time, and was always the life of the party telling stories and jokes to all of his friends and family, most of the time leaving them roaring with laughter. For all those who were fortunate enough to know Kelly, they know what a great man he was, and how much he will be missed.
Kelly was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father James, brother Roger, and son Roger. He is survived by his mother June, brothers Marty (Joanne), Danny (Linda), Bart, and Buck, children Martin (Jessica), Christine (Scott), Jimmy, and Daniel, grandchildren Everett, Shatyl, Denali, Conner, Bentley and Trinity, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
All are invited to join his family and friends at a celebration of life potluck on Tuesday, April 18th at noon at the Lion’s Shelter at City Park, Lander, Wyoming. All who attend are encouraged to bring a dish to share. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations, either through their You Caring page, an account at Atlantic City Federal Credit Union under Martin & Jessica Denevan, or at the celebration of life potluck.
