It’s wet outside, don’t forget about what’s keeping the inside of your home dry!
(Riverton, Wyo.) – Though it’s easy to do, neglecting the very thing that provides you and your family shelter during these spring storms can lead to serious and potentially expensive repairs down the road. Each spring, we recommend performing a routine inspection to address any damage that may have occurred through the freeze/ thaw process. *For those of you who are squeamish about heights, you’ll love that this inspection can be done from the safety of the ground!
On the next warm, sunny day, make your way around your home noting any of the following signs your roof may need some TLC:
___ Buckling/curling, broken or missing shingles. Obviously a no-no.
___ Missing or broken seals to vent pipes and/or chimneys. Water damage is never a fun fix and your insurance company probably own’t like you very much, should this problem get out of hand.
___ Signs of rust or cracked caulking. Yet another sign water may have creeped in where it doesn’t belong.
___ Missing drip edge. The drip edge is designed so that runoff drains into your gutters. If that water is allowed to drip behind the gutters, you could have a mess on your hands (we’re talking roof rot, stained siding and it only gets worse from there).
___ Damaged fascia. Although vulnerable to the elements, if your drip edge and gutters aren’t doing their job, your fascia may suffer the consequences.
If you checked off any of these signs of roof damage, you’ll surely want to make an effort to resolve these issues before they fester.
