Deer dies after being struck and left under stolen vehicle in Riverton
(Riverton, Wyo.) – On Tuesday, April 18 at 7:51 a.m. the Riverton Police Department was dispatched to the 1600 block of South Federal Blvd. for a report of an injured animal.
Upon arrival, officers found an injured deer that had been struck by a car and was stuck underneath its front bumper. RPD Captain Todd Byerly said the officer observed the deer to be wheezing and was having a difficult time breathing. The deer freed itself and laid down nearby. Eventually, the deer was put down due to its injuries.
The vehicle, a gold Mercury Sable with Montana registration, had been left unattended at the scene. The driver’s side door was bloody and damaged. Captain Byerly said Officers observed the doors to be locked and the interior of the vehicle to be in “disarray.”
Upon further investigation, the vehicle was identified as a stolen vehicle out of Billings, MT. It was towed to the impound and RPD Officers are working with the Billings Police Department on the investigation of the stolen vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.
