(Lander, Wyo.) – The Fremont County Weed and Pest Control District is reporting that no new detections of West Nile virus (WNv) carrying mosquitos were found this past week in six different pools tested. The report comes on the heels of the city of Riverton increasing its mosquito fogging activity after some WNv was detected in collected mosquito samples across the city on August 19th.
At that time, over 400 mosquitos had been trapped in three different locations in the city, with all locations reporting WNv. The latest collection, however showed a reduction by half in the number of mosquitos trapped, to just under 200 insects, and none with the virus.
The weather has been cooler and less conducive to active mosquito activity.
Only 52 mosquitos were collected in Lander in the last sample and Hudson recorded only 23 skeeters.
