Board member Gary Wilmot said, “The Challenge for Charities had tremendous support from local individuals and businesses including two platinum-level sponsors—Fremont Therapy Group and Fremont Toyota. This support enabled us to give a 64% match—the highest match to date. The event raised $276,000 for 35 local nonprofits.”

Over the past four years the Challenge for Charities has raised over $876,000 for local nonprofit programming.

The Lander Community Foundation raised $101,459 from 59 Community Challengers for the matching fund pool. This translated into a 64% match for funds raised up to $10,000 by each nonprofit. In 2012 and 2013 the match was 54%.

This year 35 nonprofits raised $174,548 through the Challenge for Charities – a community wide fundraiser sponsored by the Lander Community Foundation. In 2014 five organizations met the $10,000 maximum matching fund cap. The number of individual, designated donations has increased every year. In 2011 665 donations were made. In 2012 908 donations were made. In 2013 1,069 donations were made. In 2014 1,209 donations were made.

The real power of this event is the incentive provided by the match. Each year the Community Challenger fund pool has increased and been able to keep the match at a high level.

This year’s July 4th Lander Half Marathon and 5K had over 860 participants, a 25% increase from the previous year. The race was supported through grants from the Lander Chamber of Commerce, Lander District Recreation Board and Lander Kiwanis Club.
