Driver apparently fell asleep on West Main, crashed into fence; Vehicle stopped suspended over a ledge
(Riverton, Wyo.) – A 66-year-old man from Kinnear who was on medication and oxygen was taken to SageWest-Riverton Health Care after he crashed his 1998 purple Dodge Caravan into the fence at National Oilwell Services in the 100 block of West Main. The man told officers that he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
According to an RPD report, the man was westbound in the far right hand lane when the van suddenly veered to the left, crossed all lanes of traffic, and crashed into the fence. The vehicle ended up suspended over two concrete ledges at the northwest corner of the property. The man was trapped in his seat, but law enforcement was able to get him out and up to the hospital for observation.
Several eyewitness accounts were identical as to how the crash occurred.
