Wyoming to host Montana in college football season opener at Laramie this Saturday

(Laramie, Wyo.) – The wait is almost over for the 2014 college football season.  Saturday’s game in Laramie between the Wyoming Cowboys and the Montana Grizzlies will kick off the Craig Bohl era at Wyoming. The game is scheduled to  kick off at 2 p.m. from Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium.  Tickets still remain for the game, although there has been a great demand for this year’s season opener, which will be the first game under new Cowboy head coach Bohl.

Wyoming and Montana will be meeting for the first time since 1997, when Wyoming won 28-13 in Laramie.  This will be the 14th meeting in football between the two universities.  The Cowboys have won the previous 13 meetings.  It will only be the third time in 14 meetings that the game will be played in Laramie.  The two teams have met five times in Missoula, Mont., home of the University of Montana, and played each other six times in the neutral site of Billings, Mont.

Leading the Cowboys this season will be four team captains who were announced on Monday, Aug. 25.  Senior quarterback Colby Kirkegaard and senior wide receiver Dominic Rufran were elected the offensive team captains.  Senior free safety Darrenn White and junior defensive end Eddie Yarbrough were named the defensive captains.

Montana enters this season ranked No. 5 in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason rankings.

The Wyoming Cowboys have won 10 of the last 11 games they have played versus FCS teams, dating back to the 2000 season.  UW’s only loss to an FCS team during the 11-year stretch was in 2012 to Cal Poly, by a score of 22-24.

Saturday’s game will be televised on ROOT SPORTS, and will be broadcast on radio over the 26 affiliates of the Cowboy Sports Network.
