(Riverton, Wyo.) – Seven youngsters between the ages of 11 and 15 gathered at the Ron Saban Baseball Complex yesterday in Riverton to begin a three day baseball camp sponsored by the Riverton Police Department.
Chief Mike Broadhead is the instructor for the “Late Bloomers Baseball Camp,” putting the kids through basic skills training and live ball exercises. During lunch each day, the chief also talks baseball with the kids, so they know the lingo and language of the game.
Broadhead said the camp is for those kids who, for what ever reason, haven’t been involved in organized baseball and now might be too intimidated to participate. He said he wanted in impart some basic baseball fielding and hitting skills for the youth to give them confidence to be able to join an organized team next spring.
